The STORY - Fellowship of the Sword and The Quest Life
In 2001, God called Richard Henderson to a mountainside in Ruidoso, New Mexico. At the time, Richard was serving as a worship leader in a thriving church in Fort Worth, Texas, a position he'd been educated for, trained in and pursued most of his life. His chosen career was going exceptionally well, yet in the midst of all the "well" God was about to show Richard "more." God called Richard to meet Him on that remote mountainside – and Richard went.
In obedience and seeking God's heart with all of his own, Richard spent the next few days alone with God developing the outline for what would become the cornerstone of a ministry God has since used to change thousands of lives. Richard returned from Ruidoso with the framework for a five-and-a-half-day event designed to be a catalyst toward transformation. A short time later, Richard and 11 men traveled back to the mountain to "test drive" God's new vehicle of change, and Quest was born.
Since then, a women's version of Quest has been developed, as have other events, such as Fire and Q1: The Quest for Oneness. Along the way, the vision, mission and purpose of how and where these events fit within the context of the Kingdom of God has become increasingly clear.
Fellowship of the Sword, the ministry that surrounds and supports the Quest events, exists to serve the Church. Fellowship of the Sword serves the Church by facilitating catalytic encounters that uncover truth, unlock identity and unleash passion.
The purpose of Quest is to serve the Church by providing a place and a process to encounter Truth and jump-start hearts that want to and need to come alive. No matter how alive we are, there is always more life to discover. The abundant life Jesus unfolds in John 10:10 is eternal and infinite, yet we can begin to experience it here and now. Quest events serve as the launching pad for anyone inclined to pursue more life.
Questers, those who have attended an event and begun their lifelong pursuit of more, come from every imaginable walk of life, every fathomable circumstance. Some are senior pastors and mature Christ followers; some are un-churched or unbelievers whose circumstance may have led them to now consider an alternative; some come for a respite from turmoil or despair; some are simply curious. Age, race, nationality, denomination and other distinctions are neither qualifiers nor disqualifiers for the opportunity that Quest holds. Those things cannot restrain the call on nor negate the destiny of any life.
There is no end to the possibilities of what God may do in you and through you on your Quest. He is good and He is faithful. His goodness and faithfulness are ultimately what a Quest promises. You're invited.
